Who We Are

True joy is one of the biggest blessings we have in this world. Things to celebrate can be hard to come by for everyone with all that is going on. For a child, family, or individual who is homeless or has food insecurity, finding a silver lining could understandably be that much harder.

When founded, The Greatest Commandment Inc. had a mission to do our part to spread the love and hopefully bring some joy to those who are going through a rough time, because those are the ones who need it most.

Proverbs 3:27 says,“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” But how many of us truly follow this command? We have margin and extra and we save and spend it usually. There is no wrong in that as we all surely work hard for what we have. But a bigger impact than a new item or additional savings is kindness and providing joy. Focusing on all of the world’s problems at once can be overwhelming and cause us to think we can’t make a difference. We believe the Lord places specific people in our lives that need help, and he provides us the resources and heart to help those people. We just need to be faithful to act in those moments with what He’s given us, and He will take care of the rest. This is illustrated on the proverb of the starfish:

One day, the old man was walking along a beach that was littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed ashore by the high tide. As he walked he came upon a young boy who was eagerly throwing the starfish back into the ocean, one by one.

Puzzled, the man looked at the boy and asked what he was doing.

The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the boy replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

Our goal is to make a difference ultimately on the largest scale possible, but we also understand that this will take time. We started off working to make an individual, positive difference one by one to those who are in need. This will remain our goal as each person, each soul is worthy of support, security, love,  and help. We remember that we all need help from time to time. We try to look at each person as if they are our brother, sister, mother, father, son or daughter because each person is that to someone - we are all connected. So please join us and help us with your donations, word of mouth, time, and help us spread love in a world and at a time when we all need it!
